This section highlights the different RS platforms and discusses their characteristics in light of the introductory material (i.e., their orbital system, sensor, scanner, resolutions, swath, revisit time, flying height and their proven ability in agricultural applications). As we currently have a large number of platforms, the list is limited to:
- platforms that deliver (very) high/VH spatial resolution images (given that we are dealing with smallholder agriculture (SHA)),
- those that are frequently used in agricultural applications, and
- freely (or soon to be) available high/moderate spatial resolution images, e.g., the Landsat and Sentinels platforms. These platforms are discussed below.
