This section of the portal focuses on the use of RS data to derive basic, but important, agricultural information such as the boundary and area of agricultural fields. Knowledge of such information can improve annual monitoring of cropped area extent (e.g., agricultural statistics), management of land resources (e.g., land registration) and farmer decision in terms of purchasing agricultural inputs and projecting potential yields. Due to the generally small plots in smallholder systems, emphasis is placed on the use of high to very high resolution RS data for extracting farm characteristics.
