The United Nations and its agencies regularly publish books that cover a diverse range of subjects, from disaster reduction, water management and climate science, to intercultural dialogue and humanitarian assistance. These books are extensively read by leaders around the globe, especially those in the human development sector and in vulnerable regions.
EO4SD activities in developing countries have recently been featured in one of the latest UN publications, ´A Better World´. This landmark outreach book was published by the UN Convention to Combat Desertification and focused on efforts to find better ways to protect and restore the environment. Highlights included significant components of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, combating desertification, and halting and reversing land degradation and biodiversity loss. This 2018 volume no. 4, which focuses on Land Degradation Neutrality, is a fully illustrated 250-page book with up to one hundred authors sharing their work.
The digital edition of the book has already been released, coinciding with the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF 2018) that occurred in July. Printed copies will be widely distributed by UNCCD in September 2018 at the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 73).
