News
Event date:
12 March 2019 to 15 March 2019

The Agriculture and Rural Development Cluster project of the European Space Agency’s Earth Observation for Sustainable Development (EO4SD) is excited to inform you about the upcoming third workshop of the Integrated Approach Programme on Fostering Sustainability and Resilience for Food Security in Sub-Saharan Africa (III GEF-IAP-FS Workshop), which will take place in Ghana from 12 to 15 March 2019.

The workshop will cover the crucial elements ensuring food security generally and especially, in Sub-Saharan Africa. Representatives from Ministries, international organisations and local governments will share valuable information with the main objective of strengthening the regions’ capacities in food security resilience, fostering international cooperation and providing updates on the resources available to support food security initiatives.

Representatives of the Agriculture and Rural Development Cluster of EO4SD will be present at the event to deliver a comprehensive presentation about utility, benefits and potential constraints of using Earth Observation information services in the IAP food security operations and analytical products in the agriculture and wider sustainable development sectors.

Based on practical examples from Burkina Faso, Ethiopia and Niger the focus of their session will be put on harnessing Earth Observation information services as demonstrated under the ESA Earth Observation for Sustainable Development (EO4SD) initiative to support:

  • Monitoring of agricultural production and productivity
  • Food security and agriculture risk management
  • Irrigation system development and management
  • Environmental impact assessments
  • M&E of sustainable land management

A representative from eLEAF (the project lead) and DHI GRAS (an EO4SD project partner) welcome the attendees to approach them at the event with any queries related to the project or Earth Observation applications for agriculture and rural development.
