Apart from other areas of application, Earth Observation (EO) data and services can be of great assistance for optimising agricultural practices. Earth Observationn is already being used in many countries for activities such as monitoring agricultural production and productivity, environmental impact assessments, irrigation system management and agriculture risk management.
On 26 and 27 July 2018, the European Space Agency will host a two-day Agricultural and Rural Developmentnt Info Session in Manila (Philippines) at the Asian Development Bank. The goal is to transfer knowledge from Earth Observation experts to local decision-makers of agricultural and rural development policies. The Info Session is organised within the framework of the Earth Observation for Sustainable Development initiative lead by the European Space Agency (ESA).
The event will frame in the context of Earth Observation data and tools, topics that are crucial for efficient and sustainable agricultural planning, monitoring and management. In particular, the experts will fully and concisely explain how Earth Observation can be useful for:
- Agricultural production and productivity monitoring
- Land degradation monitoring
- Rural infrastructure investments
- Food security and agriculture risk management
- Irrigation system development and management
- Environmental impact assessments and other tasks related to agriculture.
